The Speech Disfluency Laboratory (SDL) is seeking highly qualified doctoral students with research interests in developmental stuttering. Students will study full-time and have the opportunity to work on a federally-funded research grant focusing on the role of cognitive-linguistic processes in developmental stuttering, with the support of full tuition remission and monthly stipend.
Indiana University is a highly-regarded, public research university and both the undergraduate and graduate programs of the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences are ranked among the top in the nation. The Department has strong interdisciplinary collaborations with the Departments of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Kinesiology, and Linguistics, as well as Cognitive Science and Neural Science programs on the Indiana University campus.

The SDL occasionally has openings for undergraduates who are interested in developmental stuttering. Undergraduate students can participate in the laboratory as volunteers, through course credit (S480), as paid research assistants (when positions are available), and through honors research (for more information about the SPHS Departmental Honors Program, please see www.indiana.edu/~sphs/academics/undergraduate/honors.shtml). Students must be able to commit to at least two consecutive semesters in the laboratory and work up to 10 hours per week. Working in the laboratory would be an especially good opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a doctoral degree in speech and hearing sciences, as students will gain valuable research experience.
